Elon Musk releases all Tesla patents to help fight climate change to save the Earth. He set a reminder through a tweet saying that all their patents belong to the masses as long as anyone want to use Tesla patented technology in good faith for the betterment of the climate. Musk said he had earlier felt compelled to file patents for Tesla to prevent big car companies from copying the technology and using the huge marketing and sales apparatus to take over the market, but he “couldn’t have been more wrong.”

He further said that they believe that Tesla, other companies making electric cars, and the world would all benefit from a common, rapidly-evolving technology platform. Technology leadership is not defined by patents, which history has repeatedly shown to be small protection indeed against a determined competitor, but rather by the ability of a company to attract and motivate the world’s most talented engineers. Elon believes that applying the open source philosophy to their patents will strengthen rather than diminish Tesla’s position in this regard.

Elon Musk said on a Tweet, “Our true competition is not the small trickle of non-Tesla electric cars being produced, but rather the enormous flood of gasoline cars pouring out of the world’s factories every day.” This tweet was to remind the world which is getting worst on simultaneous flood, drought and fire events on levels never before recorded.

Elon Musk posted this issue long back in 2014 in a blog post titled “All Our Patent Are Belong To You.” In his blog post he mentioned that annual new vehicle production is approaching 100 million per year and the global fleet is approximately 2 billion cars, it is impossible for Tesla to build electric cars fast enough to address the carbon crisis. By the same token, it means the market is enormous. He said that their true competition is not the small trickle of non-Tesla electric cars being produced, but rather the enormous flood of gasoline cars pouring out of the world’s factories every day.
