OPPO’s Futuristic Tech Includes 10X Lossless Camera Zoom and 5G | MWC 2019
With a periscopic model to flatten the thickness of the camera module, Oppo unveils its 10X lossless camera zoom technology, 5G smartphone at MWC 2019, Barcelona. In a recent ‘Innovation’ event, the company announced smartphones with 5G and 10x ‘lossless’ zooming capabilities.
As it continues to aggressively compete with Samsung and Huawei in the global smartphone market, Oppo has announced its first 5G smartphone, also showcasing its 10x lossless zoom camera technology. The announcements were made at the company’s first global ‘Innovation Event’ ahead of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. This technology, as OPPO explains, is achieved with a revolutionary triple camera system hosting main, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses. At the event, Oppo said the smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 processor and the X50 modem. No further details about Oppo’s 5G smartphone were announced, but earlier rumours claim it will likely to be the Find X2.
Although the smartphone looks cool but it’s still a prototype. Oppo’s 10X Lossless Zoom lens, which will be arriving in a phone sometime in Q2. While most phones can handle 2x optical zoom before digital algorithms need to take over, 10x optical zoom, where the zoom is hanlded in hardware. This tech will use a combination of a 48MP primary camera sensor, 120 degree ultra-wide lens and telephoto lens. When combined, these cameras can shoot photos the equivalent of 16mm all the way up to 160mm. The second and third cameras have optical image stabilization or OIS, and the latter has a stabilization accuracy of up to 0.001445 degrees.

Along with the revolutionary photography phone, OPPO also announced its first 5G phone at the event. The company did not name the device but claimed it will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 SoC and X50 modem to deliver next-generation speeds. Oppo made the announcements regarding its upcoming 5G-powered phone which it said would boost ‘Cognitive intelligence’.
The announcements of 5G technology and 10X Zoom Camera tech, Oppo wishes to compete its rival giants, Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi in the European Market. But it’s still going to be a while before we see these technologies in a phone. Oppo promised the first 10x zoom phone would arrive in the second quarter of this year.
