Apple AirPod users may finally get a robust update in early 2019. Apple will release an AirPods case that supports wireless charging, according to a new report from the most accurate Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that AirPods with wireless charging feature should hit the market in the first quarter of 2019. He also suggested that there would be more changes beyond expectations. The product upgrade will include a new AirPods case with “rigid-flex board” internal components, as well as possibly improved Bluetooth 5.0 spec, revised W-series chips and more heat-resistant hinges.
The AirPods will also be expected to get a robust redesign in 2020, which might include sweat resistance or hey Siri integration.
The hinge and new internal components will be more expensive to make, Kuo said, although he didn’t say if that would raise the prices. Notably, he also didn’t mention the AirPower mat that was originally meant to launch in tandem with the new AirPods. This doesn’t rule out its debut, but the technical issues that have plagued AirPower could have the upgraded AirPods launching by themselves.
